You don't need to memorize 200 shortcuts. These 12 cover 95% of daily computer use. Learn two a day:
The essentials
Window wrangling
Text power moves
Pick the three you don't know yet and use them deliberately for a week. They'll be muscle memory by Friday.
The essentials
- Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y — undo / redo. Works almost everywhere.
- Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V — copy, cut, paste. (Mac: Cmd instead of Ctrl.)
- Ctrl+S — save. Hit it reflexively; future you says thanks.
- Ctrl+F — find text on the page. Enormous time saver in long documents.
- Ctrl+Shift+T — reopen the browser tab you just closed by accident.
- Alt+Tab — switch between open windows. (Mac: Cmd+Tab.)
Window wrangling
- Win+D — show desktop instantly, then bring everything back.
- Win+Left / Win+Right — snap a window to half the screen. Two documents side by side, zero dragging.
- Ctrl+T / Ctrl+W — new browser tab / close tab.
Text power moves
- Ctrl+Left/Right arrow — jump word by word instead of letter by letter.
- Shift + arrows — select text as you move. Combine with the above to grab whole words fast.
- Ctrl+A — select all.
